Filthy Rich by Raine Miller
Overview by Publisher:
Billionaire Caleb Blackstone lives in the glamorous world of wealth and success, with every material luxury. But the moment he sees Brooke Casterley, none of that matters. Caleb is filled with a raw, undeniable need that he can’t ignore…for a girl who is so completely different from everything and everyone he’s ever known.
Only Brooke isn’t looking for love. She knows all too well just how much damage the wrong guy can do. Still, what sane, broke British girl can resist the charms of an incredibly sexy, chivalrous billionaire? What starts as flirtation quickly turns into all-consuming passion. Nothing could have prepared her for the searing heat of Caleb’s touch—or just how much she craves him.
Their whirlwind romance is the stuff of high-society fantasy—but for every moment of pleasure, there is a cost. Past mistakes and tragedy shadow them both…and falling for him might be the kind of trouble she can’t afford.
This book was really good. Raine Miller is a fantastic author! I have enjoyed all her books and this one is the start of a new series.
What is great about this story is that the character Caleb is awesome. What I liked so much about this character is that Caleb is so intensely focused on Brooke. Not in a creepy stalker way, but just that he knows that Brooke is meant for him. He is dogged and single minded on finding a way to her heart. You have to like it when a man is so devoted in his passion for the woman of his dreams.
Brooke and Caleb share common history. They both grew up on a small island off Boston. Caleb comes from a wealthy family and vacationed there his whole life. Brooke’s parents tragically died when she was a teenager and she came to live with her grandmother on the idyllic New England island. Although they never met, their shared love for Blackstone Island gives them an immediate connection.
I think what works well in this book is that although Caleb is filthy rich, it isn’t the centre of the story. It is about his love for Brooke and how they can make a relationship work. Caleb is a complicated character with challenges in his life. Brooke is the character with a past. The tension and complications in the plot come from her past, her insecurities and her self preservation.
It is a really good love story. At the heart of the plot is the love that Brooke and Caleb find with each other. The sex is fantastic – Raine Miller writes a mean love scene. I found myself really enjoying this book and I liked the secondary characters introduced. There is enough hints given about future novels in the series, that I am excited!
