Nico: A Mafia Romance (Ruin and Revenge Series) by Sarah Castille
Overview by Publisher:
In Nico, the first book in the Ruin & Revenge series by New York Times bestselling author Sarah Castille, Las Vegas Mafia boss, Nico Toscani, is used to getting what he wants, whether it is having the City of Sin under his rule or a beautiful woman in his bed. But when he meets his match in the gorgeous, headstrong Mia Cordano, the daughter of a rival crime lord, all bets are off. . .
Sexy computer hacker, Mia, struggles to break free of her ruthless father’s Mafia ties…but she can’t resist the powerful and seductive Nico, who will stop at nothing to possess her. With their families locked in a brutal war for control of the city, Mia and Nico enter into a forbidden game. Will they surrender to the passion that burns between them—and risk tearing apart their families? Or will Nico be forced to betray the only woman who sets his blood on fire?
This was a really great book! What I liked most about the story was the realistic portrayal of the mafia. The author really researched the connections mafia families have, the inner working and the impact on lives within the families. I was a casual watcher of the Sopranos, so I didn’t have a lot of knowledge of how the organizations worked, but after reading this book, I feel very informed.
The story has almost a Romeo and Juliet feeling to it – minus the tragic ending. Nico and Mia are from enemy families. She has been promised to his cousin in marriage to unite the families and end the feud. The politics are complicated and intriguing. The story is well written and engaging for the reader. While there is violence (trigger warning) in the typical mafia fashion, there is also violence within Mia’s family that increased the tension and stakes in the story.
Nico and Mia have a complicated relationship. The forbidden fruit aspect is a heady attraction between them. Mia is a punk princess who balks at being the perfect mafia lady. Underneath his suit, Nico is unconventional and paired well with Mia. The passion sparks brightly and as they tease and circle each other, it is exciting to read. Nico is the kind of lover that Mia has been longing for, but she didn’t expect to find it in a mafia boss.
This story blends an interesting love story with the power dynamics of a Mafia run town. I found it to be a highly engaging story that kept me interested and excited to read more! The next book looks really good too! A great start to a new series!
