Crossroads (Wind Dragons MC Series) by Chantal Fernando

Overview by Publisher:

Ranger is at a crossroads: he has a chance to leave the motorcycle club and do something else with his life—but he keeps getting dragged back. When the Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club asks for his help, Ranger agrees, not only because it is hard to say no to them, but also because he has a vested interest.

A woman is missing.

And Ranger knows her.

The Wind Dragons aren’t the only ones hoping this girl can be found—on the hunt is Johanna Chase, a stubborn detective who won’t give up until the missing woman is found safe. She needs Ranger to navigate the underground world of motorcycle clubs, and immediately, sparks fly. Ranger fights the attraction. He has no plans on going there, no matter how beautiful and badass she is. A biker and a cop? Ridiculous.

But the two of them soon realize that they’re in way over their heads, and now they have to trust each other in order to save her. With the WDMC and the police force at their back, it should be no problem, right?

Chantal Fernando has become one of my favourite authors recently.  I will read anything she writes.  I have a particular fondness for the Wind Dragons MC series.  Take all the cool elements of Sons of Anarchy and mix in guys who love their women.  While they may be badasses, they are faithful and good men.

Ranger is new the MC. He switched after his former club went down in flames.  Ranger is struggling to find his place.  He doesn’t have the ties like his buddy Talon (another great book).  He is asked by resident badass Faye to investigate a missing persons case.  It turns out that Ranger knows the woman in question and he agrees.

Ranger meets the cop he has to work with, Johanna.  From the start there are enough sparks to burn down the house.  While they are investigating Elizabeth’s disappearance, the lines between law enforcement and criminal are blurred.  This leads to some delicious and seriously sexy scenes.  Ranger is like sex on a stick.  He’s super smart, hot and alpha male.  He plays havoc with Jo’s hormones and she can’t resist the temptation he offers.

What works so well is the emotional consequences of their relationship.  They have to deal with Elizabeth and her girlish crush on Ranger and also with the reality of a cop and biker dating.  Chantal Fernando has that magic touch.  She writes characters that you really care about.  You are giddy with excitement when they connect, are heartbroken when they experience problems and relieved when they get their happily ever after.

This is the final book in the series (I think) and if you haven’t read this series, you really need to!  Even if you aren’t into motorcycle clubs, the men and ladies of the Wind Dragons are more than just bikes and bad behaviour.  They have depth and love breathed into them by the author.  This book was the perfect ending to the best series!

Necessary Evil

Necessary Evil (Sentinels of Babylon Series) by Jamie K Schmidt\

Overview by Publisher:

Lucy Simmons comes from a rough family, but she’s a damn good public defender. Even though she hates to see criminals walk due to sloppy police work, the law’s there to make sure everyone gets a fair trial, and Lucy certainly doesn’t believe in the kind of justice meted out by the leather-clad ex-cop they call “Evil.” He’s stubborn, cynical, and out of control—but he plays her body like no man ever has. For once, both Lucy’s boss and her brother agree: The biker is trouble.
Evan Villiers took a sacred vow to let no killer, rapist, or pedophile go unpunished. When scumbags fall through the system, the Sentinels of Babylon clean up the garbage. Although the SOBs and their methods may not be to Lucy’s liking, the beautiful lawyer has become Evan’s light in the dark. But his next hit is Lucy’s own brother—a murderer who got off on a technicality. Now, with his loyalties split, Evan must turn his back on his sworn duties . . . or lose the woman who has claimed his reckless heart.

I think this was one of the better motorcycle genre romance books I have read in a while.  I think what worked well with this book was that the MC in this book are not a biker gang that are involved in drugs and strippers.  They are all ex-law enforcement or military and work for one purpose – to rid the city of criminals who have gamed the system and are out free.  Now that I am writing this, they remind me of the character of Dexter (from the TV show), but without the personality issues.  They just want to right the wrongs of the legal justice system.

Evan, who goes by the nom de guerre, Evil, has been wanting Lucy for years.  When he was a cop and she was a young defence lawyer, nothing happened beyond one hot steamy kiss.  Five years later, Lucy is back in Evan’s life and he plans to keep her.

The plot revolves around Lucy’s brother’s legal problems and how he ends up on the SOB’s hit list.  Lucy and Evan are figuring out how to have a relationship with each other, while dealing with the fall out from her brother’s reappearance in her life.

While most women would likely give their eye teeth to be with Evan, it’s not that simple for them.  Lucy wants to be with Evan, but knows he is hiding secrets from her.  However, the one place they don’t have a problem is the bedroom.  Evan is a very skilled man in the bedroom and Lucy greatly enjoys the passion between the two of them.  The sex scenes are well written and full of variety and spice.

Due to both of their occupations, danger is not far from their lives.  I found the plot to be interesting and an engaging mystery.  I was constantly trying to figure out what was going to happen and how it would all work out!  I love when a story has me engaged like this!
I recommend picking up this book if you are into suspenseful contemporary romance and like vigilante bikers!

Rebellious by Gillian Archer

Overview by Publisher:

The black-leather-clad biker who just roared up on his Harley doesn’t resemble any single father Emily Clark has ever known. But as she watches “Reb” bonding with his son, Emily realizes there’s a lot more to this bad boy than his alpha-male attitude or his sinful good looks. And when Reb takes an interest in her, there’s no way she can resist his surprisingly tender touch. The one thing Emily won’t give up is her hard-won independence.
As president of the True Brothers MC, Reb owes a sacred debt of loyalty to the club, but his first priority is making sure that his son grows up right. Pursuing an unexpected affair with Emily is a close second. Then a violent stalker threatens her life, and this unconventional guardian angel really turns up the heat. Nobody messes with Reb, or anyone under his protection. Trouble is, how’s he supposed to defend Emily when she insists on going it alone? He’s willing to put his life on the line for her. Now, maybe, he needs to open his heart.

Why am I such a sucker for a biker these days?? Seriously!  I thought once I blasted through Chantal Fernando’s Wind Dragons Series and re-watched Sons of Anarchy I would have it out of my system.  As a teenager, the only type of man my mother warned me about was bikers.  There is something so mysterious about the biker culture and it’s really easy to see why it has become a really hot trope in contemporary romance novels.

Reb fits the stereotype of the white washed biker – alpha, strong, protective and caring.  I am not naïve enough to believe this is reality, but for the three plus hours I read this book, I totally did not care!

Reb is a single father.  His son lives in Emily’s building and she brings him to the clubhouse one night after he has been neglected by his mom.  They meet, sparks fly and before Emily knows it she’s becoming his old lady.

Reb moves fast (as all these bikers seem too) and claims Emily.  She is a teacher and works in a book store.  She is good to his son and isn’t afraid to take on Reb with his son’s best interests at heart.  While they are definitely opposites, their best friends are dating, so it isn’t inconceivable that they would meet.

Emily has a history of violence.  Reb is not a gentle guy and his actions frighten her at times.  I liked that this was included in the story as it made it realistic and not just all hot sex and perfect relationship.  All couples take time to figure out how they navigate each other and their respective pasts.  Emily has a stalker and Reb has a son that needs a lot of help.

Club business is dangerous and Emily has to decide if this is something she wants to be a part of.  I liked that Reb was enlightened enough to offer her some options.  He wasn’t a complete cave man outside of the bedroom.  Inside the bedroom however, Reb is definitely in charge and making Emily feel safe and like his woman is his pleasure and responsibility.  This shouldn’t be surprising – can you really imagine a novel about a biker named Reb that doesn’t have steamy and scintillating sex scenes?  They will leave little to the imagination and make you wish you had a biker of your own.

If you get hot and bothered by the biker culture and the men who wear cuts, then this is a great story to check out!
